Best bets, tips Flemington races

PREZADO should continue his love affair with the famous Flemington straight when he resumes on Saturday over the 1000m trip at headquarters.

Leading form analyst Michael Manley says Prezado’s recent jump-outs suggest he’s comeback even better this campaign.

Manley has been quick to install him as he best bet for the program, with Barthelona also in the mix as his value selection.

RACE 1: VRC MEMBER MAUREEN O’CONNELL HANDICAP (2510M) 12.15PM

SIXTIES GROOVE (1) faces a challenge rising in weight from 56kgs to 59kgs and steps up to 2500m but the style of his past two wins over 2000m suggest he’s heading for better things. He has a strong turn of foot and if he’s going to measure up to better races should win this. JAAMEH (6) finished sixth behind him last start but will relish the step up to 2500m. SERENADE THE STARS (7) was strong winning this track and distance last start and he’s a promising stayer. The Lloyd Williams pair of KILIMANJARO (4) and CROCODILE ROCK (5) both have great talent and will strip fitter for their first-up runs.

SUGGESTED BET: SIXTIES GROOVE THE WIN.

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

1) Sixties Groove $1.85 — $1.95

3) High Church $16 — $14

4) Kilimanjaro $7.50 — $6.50

RACE 2: VRC MEMBER PETER DAKIN HANDICAP (1000M) 12.50PM

PREZADO (6) took the Inglis Dash in January right up to Nature Strip over 1100m this track which reads sensationally for this. He didn’t fire at his next two starts but he also won over 1000m at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day defeating BANDIPUR (4). He’s also looked strong in recent Flemington jump-outs with a second to Vega Magic and a win. Bandipur has been racing well in Sydney and won his last start at Randwick. INVINCIBLE AL (3) burst through on the inside to win this track and distance to defeat COSTA BOMB (7). HUGE ACTION (9) is speed and talented and is better than his last start suggests. RITORNO (10) ran on well for fourth behind Brave Song over 1100m here last start when beaten just over a half a length.

SUGGESTED BET: PREZADO THE WIN

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

1) Sunday Escape $21 — $23

3) Invincible Al $3.90 — $4

4) Bandipur $3.30 — $3.40

6) Prezado $2.40 — $2.30

7) Costa Bomb $11 — $13

RACE 3: VRC MEMBER ABIGAIL BARTLETT HANDICAP (1400M) 1.25PM

Former Kiwi TAVISAN (6) looked well above average winning his Australian debut over 1200m at Cranbourne when he led throughout. His trainer Mick Price put a big rap on the colt. He’s drawn out but will carry four kilos less and breeding suggests 1400m will suit even better. SERGEANT (11) also looked smart winning at Echuca last start racing on the speed. O’TAUTO (5) won the same day at Cranbourne charging home from off the speed. RUBEN BLEU (2) and D’GRAMMY (3) ran on to finish second and third respectively behind Wild Flyer at Caulfield last start over 1400m. MUSWELLBROOK (1) resumes after finishing second to stablemate Futooh over 1600m at Randwick in the Fernhill Stakes. He’s been jumping out well. ANOTHER BIT (7) and EAST INDIAMAN (8) are also showing potential.

SUGGESTED BET: TAVISAN THE WIN

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

1) Muswellbrook $7 — $6.50

3) Dgrammy $16 — $17

5) Otauto $9 — $8

8) East Indiaman $10 — $9.50

9) La Chambie $23 — $26 4

4) Harmattan $500 @ $3.90

RACE 4: VRC MEMBER RHONDA SEXTON HANDICAP (1400M) 2PM

SPECIAL DIVA (3) last start failure in the Mildura Cup should be forgiven as she over-raced in a high pressure race which played to swoopers and she was also closer to the fence which had chopped out late in the day. Go on her all the way win at Sandown Lakeside before that when she controlled the race in a slowly run race. Shapes again as a race where she can lead and she’s won four from seven over this distance. BELLARIA (7) ran on well for second in that race. ISHARING (6) was never a factor settling well back when she resumed this track and distance making up some ground for sixth behind Miss Gunpowder. HARMATTAN (4) is the class act in this field. She’s only had five starts and she won her first two before being placed at Group 3 level. MARIQUITA (5) has run on well in her two starts for Shane Nichols. SPANNER HEAD (8) next best.

SUGGESTED BET: SPECIAL DIVA EACH-WAY

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

4) Harmattan $3.90 — $3.80

7) Bellaria $6.50 — $5.50

9) Shenandoah $12 — $11

RACE 5: VRC MEMBER JAMES HIBBERD HANDICAP (1200M) 2.35PM

GOLD MAG (11) has looked sensational winning his only two starts. He recorded the fastest closing sectionals for the day when he won by five lengths at Sandown Lakeside last start running his last 400m in 22.28 seconds. DANCING TYCOON (16) has shown a lot of talent in her five starts. She hasn’t started since she finished third behind Iconoclasm at Flemington last start. ILLUMICON (12) resumed from a spell with an impressive win at Sandown Hillside defeating some promising horses. TAHI (7) has returned to form with a win at Sale followed by a third at Flemington this track and distance behind Overstep last start. TARDIS (17) got too far back at Caulfield last start. REBELLIOUS LORD (18) is a promising galloper resuming from a spell.

SUGGESTED BET: GOLD MAG THE WIN

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

7) Tahi $12 — $11

16) Dancing Tycoon $9.50 — $10

17) Tardis $18 — $19

20) Don’t Blush Baby $31 — $34 6

2) Brigadier $18 — $19

RACE 6: VRC MEMBER DARREN ALLSOP HANDICAP (2000M) 3.15PM

KACHING (4) steps up to 2000m for the first time but races as if it should suit. He ran on well for third behind Mantastic and The Passage over 1600m at Caulfield last start. HARIPOUR (13) was expected to win last start at Sandown Lakeside when fourth over 1600m behind Sikandarabad but raced as if he was looking for 2000m. ORAKEI OVERLORD (10) fought on well for third in the same race behind Another Coldie. THE STATESMAN (5) will also be better suited over 2000m. FONTEIN LAD (12) has returned to form this campaign. He sat wide but still proved too good at Cranbourne last start over 2025m. I BOOGI (3) has been racing in solid fashion and will find this easier than his fourth last week at Moonee Valley behind Morton’s Fork.

SUGGESTED BET: KACHING EACH-WAY

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

4) Kaching $6.50 — $7.50

5) The Statesman $6.50 — $7.50

8) Urban Ruler $15 — $14

9) Hardern $19 — $21

10) Orakei Overlord $8 — $7.50

12) Fontein Lad $9.50 — $10

13) Haripour $5 — $4.40

17) Sir Edwin Landseer $12 — $13

19) The Passage $7 -$8

20) Parallel World $26 — $31

RACE 7: AURIE’S STAR HANDICAP (1200M) 3.55PM

VOODOO LAD (2) is racing in great fashion and will have a fitness advantage over his rivals. He flew home to win the Sir John Monash Stakes first-up at Caulfield and again last start his closing sectionals were excellent but he couldn’t run down star sprinter Vega Magic. He hasn’t won down the straight but has finished second in a Newmarket Handicap this track and distance. POETIC DREAM (7) flopped at his only Australian run in the autumn after winning a trial in great fashion. He resumes again after a jump-out with blinkers on which he won by 12 lengths at Flemington. Another query runner is former high class English sprinter HOME OF THE BRAVE (1) who is making his Australian debut. He’s a Group 3 winner defeating Al Quoz Stakes winner Jungle Cat. He’s also been trialling well in Sydney. BRAVE SONG (10) carried a big weight when he fought hard to win against his own age group over 1100m at Flemington last start. I AM A STAR (5) is a classy mare resuming.

SUGGESTED BET: VOODOO LAD THE WIN

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

1) Home Of The Brave $4 — $3.60 ($500 @ $4, $2000 @ $4)

2) Voodoo Lad $4 — $3.70

3) Chamois Road $21 — $19 5) I Am A Star $10 — $9

7) Poetic Dream $5 — $4.40

8) Camdus $12 — $15

10) Brave Song $6.50 — $5.50

RACE 8: VRC MEMBER DAMIAN CUBELA HANDICAP (1400M) 4.35PM

BARTHELONA (14) thrashed his rivals when he led throughout to win this track and distance in a Benchmark 78. He’s since had little luck in two races at Caulfield where he’s finished sixth and fourth but was held up in the closing stages each time. Look for him to try and reprise his tactics when he last raced at Flemington. MOSS ’N’ DALE (1) is underrated. He hasn’t raced since his tough second behind Magic Consol in the Winter Championship Final. He won three starts ago this track and distance. NIGHT’S WATCH (10) is a classy galloper resuming. He’s two from two when first-up. Another horse being aimed at big races who is resuming is ODEON (3) who can also sprint well fresh. THEANSWERMYFRIEND (6) wasn’t far away in his two starts for Darren Weir at Caulfield. He has a better record at Flemington. COOL CHAP (5) has the ability to be in the finish.

SUGGESTED BET: BARTHELONA EACH-WAY

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

4) Husson Eagle $15 — $17

5) Cool Chap $16 — $18

8) Mr Garcia $19 — $18

RACE 9: VRC MEMBERS HANDICAP (1700M) 5.10PM

MANTASTIC (6) sat deep but proved too strong at Caulfield last start over 1600m. He’s lightly raced and looks to have a lot of upside. Two starts ago he looked set to win at Caulfield over 1700m but was swamped in the closing stages by GUIZOT (5) who came from well back. He again is one of the leading chances. SIKANDARABAD (8) is another import and he won with something in hand at Sandown Lakeside last start. Lloyd Williams unveils another well bred Irish import in EXEMPLAR (30 who is a Group 2 and 3 placegetter so he creates interest. AL GALAYEL (10) finished third behind Haripour and Mantastic two starts ago before heading to Randwick where he led and tired to finish fifth.

SUGGESTED BET: MANTASTIC THE WIN

TAB MARKET MOVERS:

1) Jaminzah $41 — $34

3) Exemplar $21 — $19

5) Guizot $8 — $7.50

6) Mantastic $2.80 — $2.60

8) Sikandarabad $5.50 — $5

9) By The Grace $101 — $81

10) Al Galayel $4 — $3.80

11) Strike Force $34 — $26

13) Tan Tat Trusting $15 — $14
